EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – Police in Juarez, Mexico, are investigating a Wednesday shooting that left two musicians dead and injured three people.
The attack came before dawn as Mariachi Codigo played in the home of a patron in the La Cuesta neighborhood and an armed assailant arrived in a black car, broke into the party and started shooting, police told a KTSM/Border Report camera crew.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims, but crime scene photos obtained by KTSM show one of the victims lying on the sidewalk dressed in a traditional black-and-silver mariachi suit. Other Juarez bands have expressed condolences on social media for another shooting victim they identified as a member of the Adrian Palma y Los del Codigo regional Mexican music band.
Early reports indicate the injured include the host, and another two musicians sustained gunshot wounds. The investigation is ongoing, Chihuahua state police said.
Juarez has now recorded 67 homicides in the first 21 days of February.
