SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — United States Marines descend on Otay Mountain along the border.
Military aircraft fly above a Marine camp on the ground.
Troops run to their weapons as helicopters blow up dust in the background.
The White House shared the dramatic images of Marines arriving at the border on Friday morning.
But when Border Report went down to the border to document the Marines and their movements, they were gone.
The only Marines that Border Report found were at the Imperial Beach Border Patrol Station.
They arrived around 9 a.m. Friday morning.
From there, they could easily see the border less than a mile away.
They moved equipment around and got ready for an assignment.
Later in the afternoon, they laid out concertina wire.
Without official figures, about 200 Marines could be seen lined up.
Officials have said that 500 active duty Marines and sailors will be deployed to the San Diego area in support of President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
The troops sent to the border are part of an initial wave of military personnel being sent to the southern border.
These Marines are based out of Camp Pendleton, about 60 miles north of the border.
Border Report contacted the U.S. Marine Corps seeking information about their mission in San Diego, but they refused to comment.
