HIDALGO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A registered sex offender was arrested at a port of entry on Monday, according to the U.S. Border Patrol Sector of the Rio Grande Valley.
Jesus Jaime Saavedra-Orozco, a Mexican national, was arrested while attempting to re-enter the United States near Hidalgo.
According to the RGV Border Patrol Sector, Saavedra-Orozco was convicted in 2001 for aggravated sexual assault of a child out of Hidalgo County.
He was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
“The apprehension of this dangerous individual demonstrates our agents’ unwavering commitment to protecting our communities from those who would cause harm to our most vulnerable citizens,” said RGV Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez.
Saavedra-Orozco is being held in federal custody.
