EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Sunland Park Fire helped to rescue six people suffering from heat-related injuries in three separate incidents on Saturday, June 29, the department said via X social media.
Three suffered life-threatening injuries and the others had what were called non-life-threatening injuries. Four were placed in ice baths as part of the response.
All six were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Dona Ana Fire Rescue and Border Patrol were also involved in the rescues. The calls came in at 2:49 p.m., 5:06 p.m. and 5:36 p.m.
Sunland Park Battalion Chief Ramiro Rios said that five of the patients were treated at the Border Patrol substation on Highway 9, where they were initially taken before additional medical assistance was requested. One patient was treated at Strauss and Industrial Road in Santa Teresa, he added.
