SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — A shelter in Tijuana called Patitas Firmes, or firm tiny paws, is urgently seeking donations to help feed 200 rescued dogs at the facility.
Patricia Sandoval, the shelter operator says they are almost out of money and are having a difficult time providing food for the animals.
According to Sandoval, all the dogs have been rescued from abusive homes or the streets of Tijuana.
“We go through at least seven large bags of food per day,” she said. “Sometimes we don’t have enough to feed the majority of the animals as we’re constantly receiving two to four new dogs daily.”
Sandoval says donations don’t have to be monetary, it can be bags of dog food provided they are not open.
“We’ve had issues with open bags before, there are people who pour poison in the bags trying to harm the dogs.”
According to Sandoval, blankets and towels are also needed to help keep the dogs clean and warm at night.
“We need resources to help these little animals,” she said. “We’ve tried to approach the city to solicit city participation in adoption fairs so we can help get the dogs adopted, but we haven’t had any success.”
Sandoval is urging those interested in helping to reach out via their Patitas Firmes Facebook page.
She says people can also call the shelter directly for instructions by dialing 011-664-369-7204.
Last year, the city announced it was having a widespread problem with stray dogs saying it was unable to keep up with calls to pick up the animals throughout Tijuana.
