Border Report – Trump and Vance focus on national security during rally in North Carolina

Posted on August 21, 2024

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — The Trump campaign is crisscrossing the country this week to rally voters. Former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, are working to pull focus from the Democratic Convention and build momentum ahead of the election.

On Wednesday Trump and Vance made a campaign stop in North Carolina.

“In 75 days, we’re going to take this country back,” Vance said.

Their remarks were focused on national security, and they lobbed attacks against the Biden-Harris administration.

“Every dictator, tyrant and terrorist on the planet knows that they can get away with murder under Kamala and Crooked Joe,” Trump said.

Republicans are making the case that the country is in danger because of Democratic policies on foreign relations and immigration.

“If we give Kamala Harris a promotion and make her the president of the United States, the southern border is going to look like Walmart on Black Friday, ladies and gentlemen. It’s going to be no good,” Vance said.

They also pivoted to the economy and railed against Vice President Harris’s stances.

“She gets four more years you’re going to see jobs vanish. Millions and millions will vanish and inflation will completely destroy our country,” Trump said.

Allies of the former president say the other side isn’t focusing enough on policy proposals.

Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) argues the Harris campaign hasn’t been specific about their plans.

“They’re just running on joy and false promises which don’t help people dig out of the debt that they’re in or be able to afford the groceries.,” Mace said.

She says that’s an important contrast between Harris and Trump.

“Donald Trump is the only presidential candidate right now actually talking about the issues,” Mace said.

Congressman Mike Waltz (R-Fla.) agrees. He adds that not only does the Trump campaign have a plan, but their candidate also has a track record.

“We’re confident that people will look back at what worked and what President Trump will do again for their wallet, for our security, and for peace around the world,” Waltz said.

Trump is scheduled to head out west to campaign in Arizona.
