EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley announced that the nine students who had their visas revoked earlier this month have now had their records reactivated on a government system as of Monday.
The university announced that through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, a federal web-based system for maintaining information on nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors, UTRGV learned that all nine students whose records had been terminated were activated as of Monday.
As previously reported by ValleyCentral, the nine students who had their visas revoked were ordered to leave the United States.
In early April, more than 100 students across Texas had their visas revoked or terminated from the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System.
At the time of the initial news, UTRGV sent out the following statement: “UTRGV has been notified that the records of nine international students have been terminated in SEVIS by federal authorities. We have alerted the affected students and are committed to providing guidance within the parameters of law.”
The university says the revocation of visas is a federal issue and that is not directly related to UTRGV.
