Prominent Democrats in El Paso have endorsed Renard Johnson in the race for El Paso mayor.
Mr. Johnson is also supported by Project Red TX, a political action committee whose goal is to get Republicans into local offices across the state.
Weird, innit?
I know that the race for mayor is non-partisan. (I like to call in non-denominational.) But that doesn’t change the fact that Renard Johnson is a Republican, supported by a PAC dedicated to turning the remaining Texas Democratic strongholds into bastions of Republicanism.
It shouldn’t really surprise anyone. El Paso Democrats have long abandoned their support for the working class. Democrats are bought supported by the same lobbyists and campaign contributors that buy contribute to Republican candidates. What’s surprising is that the local Democrats that support Mr. Johnson are so blatant about it. I mean, they didn’t really have to support any candidate in the mayoral contest. They could have just sat down and shut up, but maybe that’s hard for a politician to do.
The truth is that there’s not that much difference between the blue-blood Democrats and the blue-blood Republicans. Especially in El Paso, where the fat cats have waged a class war against the working class since at least 2012.
Do you think that our local Democrats, the ones who support Renard Johnson, didn’t know he was a Republican?
Don’t they know now that Mr. Johnson is supported by ProjectRedTX? Do they do any research before they endorse a candidate?
When Mr. Johnson jacks our property taxes to pay for some dubious Quality of Life projects that only the leisure class will enjoy, are those “Democrats” going to apologize? Are they going to chip in for tax relief for the working class families?
