Former Canutillo Independent School District Trustee Blanca Trout resigned once again after she was reelected to the board during the Nov. 5 election despite dropping out of the race.
Trout initially resigned from the position and dropped from the race in October, after the deadline to have her name officially withdrawn from the ballot.
She was one of four people elected to serve four-year, at-large terms on the board, garnering 10% of the vote.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by the trust you showed in me during the recent Nov. 5 election. Receiving enough votes to serve once more on the Canutillo ISD Board of Trustees is a privilege I do not take lightly. However, it is with a heavy heart that I must respectfully decline this opportunity to take office,” Trout said in a letter released Tuesday to the Canutillo ISD community.
Trout, 62, was first elected to the board in 2016. She said previovusly that she resigned for personal reasons, but didn’t elaborate.
Now the Canutillo ISD board will have to decide whether to hold a special election or appoint someone to fill the vacancy.
If the board appoints a new trustee, they would serve for two years. The board would then hold an election to see who would serve for the remaining two years.
Canutillo ISD Communications Director Gustavo Reveles previously told El Paso Matters the board will likely consider appointing a new member because of the cost of holding an election.
