Cindy Ramirez, a veteran award-winning journalist, is the new editor of El Paso Matters.
“Cindy brings extensive skills, tremendous knowledge and a passion for El Paso,” said Robert Moore, founder and CEO of El Paso Matters.
Ramirez succeeds Ramon Bracamontes, who has been editor for two years. He has accepted a job with the El Paso County government.
“Ramon has helped raise the quality of our journalism, and has guided our most impactful work over the past two years,” Moore said. “Our team is saddened by his departure, but we wish him well in his new role.
Ramirez has been with El Paso Matters since 2022, previously serving as assistant editor and immigration reporter. She has previously worked for El Paso Inc., the El Paso Times and the University of Texas at El Paso.
Most recently, she was part of a multinational investigative team that examined a fire that killed 40 migrants in Ciudad Juarez last year.
Ramirez has received statewide awards for investigative reporting and column writing.
“I’ve been involved in journalism since high school, and have made this my lifelong career because I deeply believe in the fundamental mission of the freedom of the press,” she said.
“I’m extremely proud to be trusted with the great responsibility of carrying forward El Paso Matters as the news leader in the region and advancing the role we play in informing, engaging and impacting our community to help bring about positive change.”
Bracamontes, who has worked with Ramirez for many years, said “El Paso Matters is in great hands with Cindy at the helm. I have no doubt she will continue to make El Paso Matters the best.”
