We look in the mirror and pull back our skin, perhaps considering whether making our nose smaller or our lips bigger might change the appearance of the person looking back at us. Botox, fillers, rhinoplasty, breast augmentations – the possibilities are endless.
Nearly 2.4 million cosmetic minimally invasive procedures were performed in the United States in 2023, including neuromodulator injections such as Botox, hyaluronic acid fillers and skin resurfacing such as dermabrasion, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Another 1.6 million cosmetic surgical procedures such as liposuction, break augmentation and tummy tucks were reported that year.
And while reported complications are less than 1%, they do happen – and that’s not accounting for procedures performed outside the United States in what’s known as medical tourism.
Are you among that 1%? We want to hear more about your experiences for our coverage of cosmetic surgeries gone wrong. Contact sdsierra@elpasomatters.org or fill out the form below if you’re willing to share your story.
