Brian Lusk, currently the deputy superintendent of academics and transformation at Dallas Independent School District, has been chosen as the sole finalist to be the next superintendent of the El Paso Independent School District.

“El Paso ISD’s Board of Trustees is proud to name Dr. Brian Lusk as our next Superintendent,” school board President Leah Hanany said in a statement. “We look forward to working with Dr. Lusk as we move forward and focus on what matters most, which is our students.”
The school board vote to name Lusk as sole finalist was unanimous.
Lusk will succeed Diana Sayavedra, who resigned earlier this year amid growing tension with the EPISD school board.
“Our superintendent search process was truly successful, and it showed what can happen when a board works together with focus, respect, and commitment,” said Trustee Valerie Beals, who was in the board minority that supported Sayavedra before her resignation. “The teamwork, the long hours, and the careful, tedious steps we took all paid off. I cannot express enough how proud I am of this board and the integrity we showed throughout this entire process.”
Under Texas law, the school board must wait for 21 days before hiring a sole finalist as superintendent.
Lusk has been an educator for almost 30 years. He currently oversees 228 schools and leads districtwide work in Dallas in academics, college and career readiness, counseling services, innovation, and athletics.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
