Korean War Exhibit Opening
The El Paso Museum of History will unveil its latest exhibit, “El Paso’s Homegrown: The Korean War,” at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27. The free event at the museum, 501 N. Santa Fe St., marks the anniversary of the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement and will delve into the experiences of El Pasoans during the Korean War, a conflict that took place from 1950 to1953. Visitors can explore artifacts from the conflict, learn about Korean history and culture, and understand the ongoing relationship between the United States and Korea. The exhibit is part of the museum’s “El Paso’s Homegrown” series, which began in 2022, and will be on display through July 2025.
Last Sunday Hike
A park ranger will accompany hikers during the Last Sunday Hike at Agave Loop from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 28. The moderate 1.5-mile hike through the western foothills of the Franklin Mountains features a gradual incline and scenic vistas, with a challenging descent over rubble. Admission is $5 for adults, free for Texas State Park Pass holders and children ages 12 and younger. Hikers should meet at the West Cottonwood Spring trailhead at 2900 Tom Mays Park Access Road. Bring water, snacks and appropriate hiking gear. Reservations: 915-444-2100.
Insect Night at the Museum
The El Paso Museum of Archaeology is set to host “Insect Night” from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 26. This family-friendly event will feature a variety of activities, including guided evening hikes, interactive tables and art displays, all centered around the world of insects. Collaborators for the event include Dr. Paul Hyder, the El Paso Zoo, Frontera Land Alliance, Frontera Arts and Education Collaborative, Texas Master Naturalist, Texas Parks-Hueco Tanks, and the University of Texas at El Paso Biodiversity Collection. The event will be held at the museum, 4301 Trans Mountain Road.
Other events
Back-to-School Expo: The annual KFOX14/CBS4 Back-to-School Expo is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at Bassett Place. The event will feature live entertainment and free school supplies for children from kindergarten through 12th grade. El Paso Children’s Hospital, the presenting sponsor, will also offer hearing screenings.
Kids Day Out: The Cowtown Boots Event Center, 11451 Gateway West Blvd., will host “Kids Day Out,” an event organized by Longhorn Art and Farmers Market, from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 27. This free, family-friendly event will feature games, food, music and vendors. The event also encourages donations of school supplies for children in need.
