Here’s a roundup of some culture and civic events in the borderland in the coming week.
Navidad de La Fe Luminarias
El Paso’s Scenic Drive will glow with the light of 4,000 luminarias during the annual Navidad de La Fe Luminarias from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21. Organized by Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe, the free event invites the public to enjoy the ambience created by sand-filled paper bags with candles lighting the way along Scenic Drive. Event will include campfires tended by volunteers, a live nativity scene and Santa Claus.
Attendees are encouraged to donate canned goods or nonperishable items at the event’s donation site to support local families in need. Traffic will enter Scenic Drive at Richmond Avenue and exit at Rim Road, with drivers asked to dim their lights and remain in their vehicles for safety. Information: 915-534-7979 or lafectc@lafe-ep.org.
Pet Pictures with Sunny Santa Paws
Bring your family and furry friends for a photo with Sunny Santa Paws at WinterFest. The event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at the gingerbread house in San Jacinto Plaza, 111 E. Mills Ave. A $5 donation to Friends of El Paso Animal Services gets you a holiday photo, with proceeds supporting pet care and pantry programs.
El Paso Animal Services will be present offering free dog adoptions from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday through Jan. 5. All adoptions include spaying or neutering, vaccinations, microchipping and registration.
