Sunset Heights Tour of Homes
The Sunset Heights Tour of Homes offers a unique opportunity to explore some of El Paso’s historic architecture. This year’s tour, which is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, features seven homes, including the Trost Home, 1013 W. Yandell Drive, and the Zach White House, 1201 N. Mesa St. Tickets are available for purchase online or at the Hal Marcus Gallery, $10 for adults and $5 for children younger than 10, with purchases available online or at the Hal Marcus Gallery, 1308 N. Oregon St., and El Paso County Historical Society, 603 W. Yandell.
Money raised through tour admissions will support the Sunset Heights Neighborhood Improvement Association’s efforts to assist residents, maintain the neighborhood’s historical integrity, and provide community activities. Information: elpasohistory.com
UTEP Basketball and Football
For the first time in school history, the University of Texas at El Paso men’s basketball team will host an open practice in Ciudad Juárez at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. The session will take place at the Gimnasio Universitario on the campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez, or UACJ. This historic practice marks an opportunity for fans across the border to connect with the Miners basketball team. Admission is free.
In El Paso, the Miners’ football team will host Sam Houston State University for a Conference USA matchup at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Sun Bowl Stadium. UTEP (0-4, 0-1 in conference play) will seek its first win of the season against the Bearkats (4-1, 1-0) in a game that will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network. Tickets: utepminers.com
PEEP Streetcar Walk
The Photography Enthusiasts of El Paso, or PEEP, host its annual Downtown El Paso Streetcar Walk from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. As part of the Worldwide Photo Walk, participants will ride the El Paso Streetcar, capturing photos of the city’s vibrant streets along the way. The walk begins and ends at the Glory Road Transit Terminal, where attendees are free to hop on and off at their own pace. The free event is open to all and no special equipment is required. Dimensions in Testimony at Holocaust Museum
The El Paso Holocaust Museum unveils the groundbreaking Dimensions in Testimony exhibit from the University of Southern California Shoah Foundation on Saturday, Oct. 5. The interactive, permanent installation features pre-recorded video interviews with Holocaust survivors and other genocide witnesses, allowing visitors to engage in real-time conversations through advanced natural language processing.
The exhibit includes a Spanish-speaking survivor, making it the only such installation in the United States with this feature. The exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with hourly sessions. Reservations are encouraged. Information: elpasoholocaustmuseum.org
Fall Home & Garden Show
The 16th Annual El Paso Fall Home & Garden Show will take place Friday-Sunday, Oct. 4-6, at the El Paso Convention Center. This free, three-day event offers attendees a chance to explore the latest trends in home improvement, landscaping and more. Visitors can meet with local experts for advice, browse a variety of exhibits, and take advantage of special offers from vendors. The show runs from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
Mayor, City Council Candidate Forum
The League of Women Voters of El Paso is hosting a mayor and City Council candidate forum from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the El Paso Community College Valle Verde Campus. This public event, co-organized by the Community First Coalition and EPCC, will feature candidates from all city races. It will take place in Room 150 of the campus’ Arts, Sciences and Technology Building.
Moderators include journalist Aaron Montes and Rocio Cardiel, a government instructor at EPCC. The forum will also be streamed online. The deadline to register to vote in the November election is Oct. 7. Early voting begins Oct. 21. Information: kstaudt@utep.edu.
‘Discovering Nature’ During Texas Archaeology Month
Young explorers can step into the world of archaeology Saturday, Oct. 5, at this month’s “Discovering Nature” event at the El Paso Museum of Archaeology, 4301 Woodrow Bean Transmountain Drive. The event is being conducted in celebration of Texas Archaeology Month. Children ages 4-6 will create their own stratigraphy suncatchers, build pinch pots and participate in a mock dig to uncover ancient artifacts. Weekend runs
The Rodada Rosa Ride/Run/Walk will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Podium Finish Coffee and Bikes, 1400 Texas Ave. This free event offers participants the chance to join a 15K ride, 5K run, or a walk to raise awareness for breast cancer. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event highlights the importance of early detection and prevention. The first 100 participants will receive a free pink bandana. Families and pets are welcome.
OutFest, El Paso’s celebration of National Coming Out Day and the LGBTQIA+ community, returns Saturday, Oct. 5, at McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre. The inclusive, all-day event begins at 10 a.m. with a 5K Rainbow Color Run, followed by performances from local artists and dance groups. Attendees can sample a variety of food trucks, shop from small business vendors, and join in on the festivities that honor diversity and community spirit.
