Incumbent El Paso County Tax Assessor-Collector Ruben P. Gonzalez has easily been reelected for a third term.
Gonzalez, 73, who has served in the position since 2017, received 78% of the early vote on Tuesday. He has no Republican opponent in the November general election.
He was challenged in the Democratic primary by Art Lujan Seelig, 58, an investigator in the El Paso County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office. Seelig received 22% of the early vote.
The county tax assessor-collector’s office collects property taxes for the county. The office also collects state and county fees; automotive license renewals and registrations; title transfers; beer, wine and liquor licenses; occupational permits; and hotel occupancy taxes.
The tax assessor-collector serves a four-year term and is paid $133,466 a year.
