The Borderland came together for ‘A Day of Remembrance’ to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the mass shooting in El Paso at the Community Healing Garden National Memorial at Ascarate Park on Saturday.
El Paso County and the El Paso United Family Resiliency Center hosted the event to promote unity and healing and honor the 23 people who were killed, the dozens who were injured, and the families impacted in the shooting.

The ceremony included luminaria lighting, a reading of the names of the victims and lighting of 23 beams. Unveiled at the memorial was a new mural completed by El Paso artists Blanca Estrada, Albert “Tino” Ortega and Cesar Inostroza and an “eternal flame” donated by the One Gas Foundation of Texas Gas Service. El Paso Pro Musica played instrumental music.
