The El Paso Matters Book Club hosted readers for a creative and community-driven evening Thursday, April 17, at Margin Notes Bookbar in West El Paso. The event was inspired by the club’s current reading selection, “The Crossing: El Paso, the Southwest, and America’s Forgotten Origin Story” by Richard Parker.
Attendees crafted custom bookmarks using Texas-themed magazines, scrapbook supplies and plenty of imagination — each one a tribute to the culture, stories and landscapes of El Paso and the Southwest. The night encouraged participants to reflect on themes from Parker’s book, which examines the complex identity and historical significance of El Paso and the borderlands.
The event offered a welcoming space to connect, create and celebrate the region’s literary and cultural identity.
