This is your weekly update, which takes a quick look at the weekend, the week ahead and some developments that El Paso Matters is following.
Drugs Take Back Day: El Pasoans with unwanted or expired medications can dispose of them safely on Saturday, Oct. 28, as part of the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and various local entities will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs. Expired drugs left around the house, especially opioids, pose dangers of poisoning or addiction.
Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage. Eleven drop-off sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day. For more information and to find a collection site near you, visit www.DEATakeBack.com.
Mail-In Ballot Deadline: Friday, Oct. 27, is the last day to apply for a ballot by mail from the El Paso County Elections department for the Nov. 7 general election. That election includes 14 state propositions, and local elections for the Village of Vinton and the Horizon Regional Municipal Utility District. You are eligible to vote early by mail if you are a registered voter who is 65 years or older, disabled, expected to give birth within three weeks of election day, in jail, or out of the country. To vote by mail, a voter must complete and submit an Application for a Ballot by Mail, also known as an ABBM, to the Early Voting Clerk. To download and print an ABBM, English or Spanish, or for more information visit https://epcountyvotes.com/voter_information/civilian_ballot_by_mail.
