El Paso Matters – Ysleta ISD superintendent’s contract extended one year; no salary increase

Posted on February 2, 2024

The Ysleta Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Wednesday to extend Superintendent Xavier De La Torre’s contract for another year, until June 2029, after a closed door discussion.

YISD Superintendent Xavier De La Torre

This new contract comes without a pay raise or additional benefits.

De La Torre is making over $442,000 a year and was the third-highest paid superintendent in the state during the 2022-23 school year, according to a report from the Texas Education Agency.

De La Torre has been leading YISD since 2014. His contract was last updated in January 2023. At the time, he was also given a one-year contract extension but no pay raise.

The superintendent could qualify for a pay raise in 2025 during his next annual evaluation.
