El Paso Taxpayer Revolt – CITY COUNCIL APPOINTS ALEJANDRA CHAVEZ MAYOR PRO TEMP, INDICATES CLEAN BREAK WITH FISCAL CONSERVATIVES

Posted on January 7, 2025

[[{“value”:”

This morning, Renard Johnson made a motion to appoint newly-sworn-in City Rep Alejandra Chavez of District 1 as Mayor Pro Temp and Art Fierro of District 6 as Alt Mayor Pro Temp.

It was Johnson’s first motion as Mayor and was supported unanimously.

Appointing Chavez as Mayor Pro Temp rather than Fierro, Limon, or Canales, who have years of experience on City Council, represents a clean break with the past and a clear indication that–as Adam Powell of the El Paso Times recently wrote–“the dynamics at City Hall will be drastically different from the last [two] years which were defined by a fiscally conservative approach.”

Fellow taxpayers, put on your seat belt!
