El Paso Taxpayer Revolt – CITY PROCLAIMS JULY 8 “EL PASO MATTERS DAY,” PRAISES MOORE AND HIS TEAM

Posted on July 11, 2025

Six minutes into the City Council meeting this past Tuesday, Rep. Josh Acevedo read an official proclamation establishing July 8, 2025 as “El Paso Matters Day.”

The text of the proclamation is full of praise, bordering on worship.

The Mayor chimed in, addressing Moore as “Bob” in a tone indicative of their bond of friendship, and honoring him with a lengthy eulogy suffused with fawning adulation.

The spectacle lasted 11 minutes and 20 seconds.

The proclamation reads: “Whereas El Paso Matters under the leadership of veteran journalist Bob Moore and Cindy Ramirez has become a respected and trusted non-profit newsroom dedicated to providing in-depth, data-driven, and community-focused reporting on issues that matter to El Paso and the Paso del Norte region…”

Acevedo added, “We extend our deepest appreciation for their commitment to truth, accountability, and the betterment of our community.”

Next, Moore lectured City Council on the importance of “strong journalism,” without neglecting to recognize his own achievements.

He declared, “We choose […] to help tell the most important stories of the community.”

We guess that would not include reporting that the preliminary City budget for FY 2026 includes a 6.5% tax increase, which was promptly covered by the El Paso Times, KVIA, KTSM, and KFOX but totally ignored by El Paso Matters.

We will not recount here the numerous El Paso Matters reports favoring Escobar-anointed candidates for political office, nor will we cite the hit pieces aimed at their opponents.

Just as telling are the stories that are not reported by El Paso Matters, lest they should offend the elite business leaders who contribute to them generously.

It is impossible for us to imagine Brenda De Anda-Swann of KVIA or Tim Archuleta of the El Paso Times appearing in an official capacity before a group of sitting politicians to receive their praise–the same politicians whom they are supposed to keep honest through their investigative reporting.

But given the obsequious puff pieces in support of Johnson and other Oligarch candidates during the election campaign last fall, Moore’s royal welcome by this City Council makes perfect sense.

Don’t forget to mark July 8 on your calendar and congratulate Bob Moore every year.

Of course, every day is El Paso Matters Day is you are Renard Johnson!
