El Paso Taxpayer Revolt – DEBT PLAZA IS DOOMED

Posted on March 4, 2026

[[{“value”:”

15,241 Republican primary voters (64.6%) cast their ballots in favor of Proposition 1:

“We the Republican Voters and Taxpayers of El Paso City and County oppose the spending or commitment of tax dollars for the promotion, design, or construction of the proposed Deck Plaza over the downtown portion of Interstate I-10.”

Please note that two Debt Plaza supporters on the El Paso County Commissioners Court, David Stout and Sergio Coronado, were voted out of office last night.

Please note also that the City saw $60 million worth of grant applications summarily rejected and that it is short $18,932,000 for the “future proofing” TxDOT requires.

Please note also that the City and County have no idea where to find $412 million to build the thing (though they still cling to the fiction the project will cost only $207 million).

Our local politicians need to stop applying lipstick to this voracious sow of a boondoggle, which will soon end up on the ash heap of history no matter what they do, just like the multipurpose basketball arena.

Enjoy your day!
