Yesterday afternoon KFOX14 launched a poll asking El Pasoans whether they are for or against building a Deck Plaza over Interstate 10.
In less than 24 hours, 71% of 759 respondents voted against the Deck Plaza, and there are still 13 days remaining in the poll!
It reminds us of the General Election of November 5, when 56% of El Paso voters opted to cancel funding for the Arena.
You see, taxpayers can smell a boondoggle from 100 miles away, and the $412 million Deck Plaza is already starting to cost us money.
Yesterday the County Commissioners Court voted 3-2 to chip in $1 million for the design phase, with staff insisting they will not be obliged to pay more later.

Once again, we are told that an extremely expensive capital improvement project will spark economic development, and once again, the Oligarchs insist that the public bear the brunt of the cost and all of the risk.
They know full well that the City and County will end up on the hook for nine figures!
Of course, no one ever bothers to ask why the Oligarchs don’t pay for such projects themselves if they are going to be so profitable. Wouldn’t private investors want to capture all that profit for themselves?
Never mind…
