Among the many horrible things Mayor Dee Margo did to our community was casting the tie-breaking vote to sell EP Electric to a group of Wall Street investors on December 17, 2019.
City reps Cassandra Hernandez, Sam Morgan, Henry Rivera, and Cissy Lizarraga all voted to approve the sale, with Steve Ortega lobbying the City behind closed doors.
“El Paso Mayor Dee Margo said the sale is good for El Paso and EPE customers. ‘It provides financial stability to El Paso Electric while providing numerous economic incentives for attracting more jobs and investments,’ Margo said in a statement. ‘The success of IIF’s purchase will not be based on rate increases, but on performance and growth.’”
Margo lost his reelection bid and the other four city reps are no longer in office but the negative consequences of their decision will be felt for generations.
Think about that as you watch your electric bill double.
