According to her campaign webpage, Alejandra Chavez “is committed to exploring options for property tax relief.”
However, during the recent budget discussions she did not make a single proposal that would ease our tax burden.
To the contrary, on August 19 she voted to adopt a budget for FY 2026 that increases our property tax by $83 on the average-valued home.
Almost as if to reward her for screwing the taxpayers, Dee and Adair Margo just contributed $1,500 to her political fund and Steve Ortega threw in another $1,000, according to item 15 of the City Council agenda for this coming Tuesday
Margo was the worst mayor in modern memory and Ortega did more financial harm to our community than any single individual we can think of.
The two men love Chavez because she stands for the interests of the Oligarchs and their bankers and attorneys and she will support the Debt Plaza, corporate welfare for developers, non-voter-approved debt, and whatever else they want.
HOW TO RECALL ALEJANDRA CHAVEZ AND REMOVE HER FROM OFFICE
Article II, Section 2.1 (C) of the El Paso City Charter provides that an elected official can be removed from office if “a petition bearing authentic signatures of a number of registered voters equal to at least twenty percent of the total number of votes cast in the election of the officer whose recall is sought” is submitted to the City Clerk within 60 days of filing the petition.
Chavez was elected to office in the Runoff Election of December 14, 2024.
2,205 votes were cast in her race, which means that only 441 signatures of registered voters from District 1 would be required to place an item on the ballot to recall her.
The law provides that a second item can be placed on the same ballot to remove her from office.
