El Paso Taxpayer Revolt – TOMMY GONZALEZ IS CITY MANAGER OF MIDLAND BUT MOONLIGHTS IN PECOS FOR $9,500/MONTH

Posted on March 27, 2026

[[{“value”:”

Tommy Gonzalez was City Manager of El Paso from 2014 until February 28, 2023, when he was fired without cause. His final salary was $424,595 plus benefits.

We reported that during his last several months in office he was moonlighting as CFO of Durango, Colorado for $8,750/month.

We also reported that less than five months after he was fired by our City Council and paid nearly $890,000 in severance, Gonzalez was hired as City Manager of Midland with a base salary of $350,000 and a vehicle allowance of $9,000.

We also reported that that starting May 1, 2024, Gonzalez had a second job in Pecos earning $9,500/month with a contract terminating April 30, 2026.

Now it seems that folks in Midland and Pecos have finally gotten wind of his double-dipping and are very unhappy about it!

All we can say is that we are glad Gonzalez is now someone else’s problem.
