KTSM News – 1 injured during funeral escort on I-10 West in East El Paso County

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A person was injured during a funeral escort on Tuesday, Aug. 27, on Interstate 10 West in far East El Paso, according to a spokesperson with the El Paso Fire Department.

The spokesperson says the incident happened at around 1 p.m. Tuesday on I-10 West at Eastlake.

Witnesses at the scene confirmed the person who was injured in the crash was a sheriff’s deputy who was traveling on a motorcycle.

The person suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

At around 1:30 p.m., TxDOT reported that a crash in the area closed the right three lanes with clearing time until further notice. Major backup was also being reported.

One lane will remain open but motorists can expect lane closures for at least the next two hours. Drivers are urged to use caution and use alternate routes if possible.
