Posted on November 5, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — One person was killed in a crash involving a Doña Ana County Sheriff’s unit along Interstate 25 Monday night, Nov. 4, according to Sheriff’s Office.

At about 6:30 p.m., DASO deputies were responding to a call about an injury to a child in the Las Alturas area. Deputies were responding with their lights and sirens all activated, acccording to DASO.

While en route on southbound I-25, a vehicle that was traveling “significantly slower” pulled out onto the freeway in front of Sheriff’s vehicles, the Sheriff’s Office said.

There were two deputies in a unit that collided with the slower moving vehicle, DASO officials said.

Both deputies and the female driver of the other vehicle were transported to local hospitals for treatment. A passenger in the other vehicle, identified only as a male civilian passenger, was unresponsive at the scene and later died at a hospital, Doña Ana County Sheriff’s officials said.

Neither the deputies nor the civilian female suffered any life-threatening injuries, according to DASO.

New Mexico State Police are handling the investigation into the crash. DASO did not say exactly where the crash happened on I-25.
