Posted on January 24, 2025

UPDATE: One person was transported via Fire Department helicopter during a rescue operation near a canal along the Border Highway and Zaragoza, the Fire Department said. The rescue operation ended at about 4:45 p.m.

All lanes along the Border Highway near Zaragoza have reopened.

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Fire Department’s Special Rescue teams are responding to reports of an individual in need of assistance Friday afternoon, Jan. 24 near the canal at the Border Highway and Zaragoza in El Paso’s Lower Valley.

The Fire Department initially called the incident a “water rescue,” but the person was never in the water. The call came in at little after 3:30 p.m.

The Fire Department’s Five STAR helicopter is also responding.

The Texas Department of Transportation says that all lanes of traffic along Loop 375 at Zaragoza are shut down. Clearing time is until further notice.

We’re currently working on gathering more information on this incident.
