EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Two inmates at the El Paso County Jail Annex are showing symptoms consistent with measles and precautions are being taken to prevent spreading, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said Monday, April 21.
The Sheriff’s Office was notified Sunday by University Medical Center, which is the medical provider for the agency, that two inmates have been showing symptoms that could be mealses.
The Jail Clinic began testing both inmates, and lab specimens have been collected and were went to the UMC laboratory for analysis, the Sheriff’s Office said.
All individuals housed in the same cell have also been placed under quarantine “out of an abundance of caution” to prevent any potential spreading, the Sheriff’s Office said.
“Our number one priority is the health and safety of everyone in our facilities,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. “We were notified right away, acted quickly, and will continue working closely with our medical partners to ensure proper care and containment.”
The Sheriff’s Office says it is following all recommended health protocols and will share additional updates as more information becomes available.
