EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Two people were rescued on Monday, June 30, after a vehicle was swept into the Rio Grande near Valley Drive, just south of Rincon, Doña Ana County said in a news release.
The County said the incident occurred following heavy rainfall that washed a truck off the roadway and into the river. Two people were located and needed to be rescued.
Doña Ana Fire Rescue operated under unified command with the Las Cruces Fire Department and Sierra County Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Teams to conduct the rescue.
The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene and provided support during the operation, the County said.
The County said both people were successfully located and rescued without injury.
“Thanks to the swift coordination between multiple agencies, we were able to bring everyone in safely,” DAFR Deputy Chief Yvonne Feijoo said. “We urge drivers to never attempt to cross flooded roadways. What looks like a few inches of water can be much deeper and faster moving than it appears.”
In addition, DAFR is reminding the public to exercise extreme caution during monsoon season and avoid flooded roadways.
