Before we get to the forecast, are you ready for a fascinating and true story about my father Bobby Bettes? Well, he went quail hunting just west of Alamogordo in 1965 when he was 17. He dropped the Zippo lighter pictured below, and a very sweet lady named Patricia Gressman found it and took it to my Aunt Patsy, who still lives at the address my dad inscribed on the lighter. On the side pictured, it says “A. H. S. ’65” for Alamogordo High School ’65. That’s right! For 60 years, that thing sat in the mud a few blocks west of where the railroad tracks cross First Street. Obviously, my father is excited, but he has some explaining to do as to why he had a lighter at 17. Your forecast is below…
TONIGHT: Tonight, The skies will be generally clear with just a few high, thin clouds. The NE breeze will feel chilly at 5-10 mph, and the low will drop to 29 at the airport, 25 in the valley.
FORECAST: Wednesday will be a lovely day and slightly warmer with a high of 59. The skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy, and the NE winds will range from 5-10 mph. Thursday will be even warmer with a high of 64. High pressure starts to build up, and the winds will shift SW at 5-15 mph. On Friday, a powerful low-pressure system passes over the Borderland. This will stir up the winds in the afternoon, out of the west at 15-50 mph with stronger gusts on the east slopes. Saturday will be sunny with cooler winds and a high of 58. The NW winds will range from 10-25 mph with no dust. Sunday will be sunny and 53. Monday will be sunny and 55. A cold front blows in on Tuesday. Look for partly cloudy skies and strong, chilly winds, especially on the west slopes of the mountains.
