EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Following the removal of more than 20 squatters from a Northeast El Paso home last week, officials have confirmed that 27 animals were also rescued from the property and are now in the care of El Paso Animal Services.
The home, located at 5733 Hemmingway Drive, made headlines after law enforcement discovered stolen items and severely unsanitary living conditions while clearing out the squatters on Thursday. A significant number of animals were found living in what officials described as “dirty conditions.”
During KTSM’s Mutt Monday interview during the noon show Monday, Anchor Ian Roth asked El Paso Animal Services about the welfare of the animals removed from the property. Destiny Valdez, Social Media Specialist for El Paso Animal Services, said the animals are now receiving care and attention.
“Most of the animals had skin conditions because of the dirty conditions they were living in,” Valdez said. “They’ve been treated, and several have already been adopted.”
According to Valdez, a total of 27 animals, including dogs were rescued from the home. Some of the animals have already found new homes, while others are still available for adoption.
El Paso Animal Services is encouraging the community to consider adopting or fostering, especially in light of cases like this one where rescued animals need rehabilitation and permanent homes.
Residents interested in adopting or supporting the animals can visit El Paso Animal Services
or stop by the shelter during regular hours.
