KTSM News – 500 students at Santa Teresa ES to get new shoes

Posted on April 2, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Nearly 500 students at Santa Teresa Elementary School in the Gadsden ISD will be getting new shows, socks and backpacks.

The donation is being made by the Braden Aboud Memorial Foundation during a ceremony at the school on Friday, April 5.

Sponsors for the event are Anchondo Law Foundation and the Robert E. and Evelyn McKee Foundation.

Over the last 17 years, the Braden Aboud Memorial Foundation has donated millions of dollars back into the community, including putting over 13,000 new, name-brand athletic shoes on the feet of children across 19 campuses in the El Paso, Gadsden, Ysleta, Canutillo and Socorro Independent School Districts, according to a news release sent out on behalf of the foundation.

Every year, at least one elementary school is selected to be the recipient of the giveaway, and every student in the school “earns” a pair of shoes through the Earn It program by demonstrating good sportsmanship and character.

Working in conjunction with the school, the B Strong Shoe Giveaway seeks to promote physical fitness and character enhancement throughout the entire school, according to the news release.

“We are so excited to provide shoes and other goods to the Falcons at Santa Teresa Elementary School,” said Cindi Aboud, foundation director. “In memory of our son, Braden, and in his spirit, we give every child at each campus a pair of new athletic shoes so they can compete at the best of their ability and to keep everyone on the same playing field.”
