KTSM News – 8K troops from Fort Bliss to deploy to Europe

Posted on January 24, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — More than 8,000 soldiers from Fort Bliss will soon be deploying to Europe for a nine-month rotation to suppport NATO allies and partners.

The Department of the Army announced in September 2024 that the 1st Armored Division headquarters and several brigades within the division will be deploying to Europe to replace the 1st Cavalry Division, which is based at Fort Cavazos, Texas.

This is part of a regular rotation of troops to support the nation’s commitment to NATO and its allies and partners, officials with Fort Bliss said.

The last time the 1AD headquarters deployed was in 2019 when it deployed to Afghanistan.

Fort Bliss and the 1st Armored Division will mark the upcoming deployment with a casing ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the 1st AD Parade Field, 11685 Sergeant Major Blvd.

Deploying along with the 1AD headquarters will be the Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Divistion Artillery (DIVARTY) and the 1st Armored Division Sustainment Brigade.

“The colors casing ceremony is an Army tradition that symbolizes a unit’s transition of operations from its home station to a forward deployed location,” Fort Bliss said in a news release.

Fort Bliss did not give a specific time frame on when the troops will be deploying. The deployment is scheduled to last nine months.
