EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Anthony Independent School District announced on Thursday, May 15, the installation of a new surveillance camera system to enhance safety.
According to the news release by Anthony ISD, the cost of the system was $162,960, which was paid for with the district’s general fund balance.
The original price of the purchase and installation of the surveillance camera system would have been about $200,000, but the district’s IT team completed the installation and saved roughly $40,000, Anthony ISD said.
“Anthony ISD is committed to smart financial decisions that prioritize the education and safety of our students,” Superintendent Oscar A. Troncoso said. “Thanks to our IT Department’s in-house installation, we saved thousands while still delivering top-level security. I appreciate our Board of Trustees for approving this investment.”
The school district highlighted some of the surveillance system’s advanced features:
- Panic buttons that trigger live camera feeds from nearby areas
- Instant alerts sent to security teams with embedded video footage
- Accurate location detection through camera-to-panic button mapping
- Weatherproof and vandal-resistant exterior design
- 360° panoramic outdoor views
- Discreet indoor monitoring
- Visual verification of badge credentials in restricted areas
- Improved response times, situational awareness and incident investigation capabilities
According to Anthony ISD, the system is monitored by the Anthony Police Department school resource officer and AISD security personnel.
“With how advanced and user-friendly the system is, it’s nice because it allows myself, campus patrol and admin to respond faster and more efficiently,” School Resource Officer Angel Velasquez said.
In addition, the system can be accessed by law enforcement in the event of an emergency, AISD said.
The surveillance system has been operating since March.
