KTSM News – Artist applications open for Chalk the Block

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The City of El Paso’s Museums and Cultural Affairs Department (MCAD) is now accepting applications for the 18th annual Chalk the Block event.

Chalk the Block, presented by Raiz Federal Credit Union, will return to El Paso on Oct. 11-12 in the Downtown Arts District.

According to the news release by the City of El Paso, Chalk the Block features 50 artists competing in three categories.

Interested artists are encouraged to apply online at the Chalk the Block website.

All applicants must complete the required form and follow the outlined submission guidelines, the City said. The deadline to apply is Aug. 18.

In addition, artists may apply in one of the following categories:

  • Showcase: Advanced artists, ages 18+
  • Emerging: Intermediate artists, ages 18+
  • Student: High-school students currently enrolled in school

The City said that selected participants will be required to attend a mandatory orientation and commit to scheduled hours during the festival.
