KTSM News – ‘Battle of Claw’ will wait another day

Posted on August 30, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso High vs. Austin High.

It is a rivalry that goes back generations with fathers, uncles and brothers facing off for bragging rights on who will win “The Claw.”

The annual grudge match pitting two of the City’s oldest schools will have to wait another day.

After a more than 2-hour lightning delay on Friday night, Aug. 30, the game will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at El Paso High’s historic R.R. Jones Stadium.

It is the season opener for both teams.

Austin was 3-1 in 1-4A District play in 2023 and 5-6 overall. El Paso High was 1-4 in 1-5A Districtd 2 play and 3-7 overall last year.

Austin has won “The Claw” the past six meetings.
