KTSM News – Borderland closures in observance of Labor Day

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Borderland will see some closures in observance of Labor Day coming up next Monday, Sept 1.

Here is a list of the closures:

City of El Paso

All City of El Paso administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, in observance of Labor Day.

The following is the City’s schedule of services and operations for Sept. 1:

Closed/ no service

  • Citizen Collection Stations
  • Department of Public Health
    • Community Clinics, Medicaid Waiver Program, Rawlings Dental Clinic and STD & HIV Prevention and Surveillance and WIC Offices
  • Greater El Paso Landfill
  • Municipal Court/Bond Offices
  • Museum of Archaeology, Museum of Art, Museum of History and Mexican American Cultural Center
  • One-Stop Shop
  • Public Libraries
  • Recreation Centers, Senior Centers, and Aquatic Centers
  • Tax Office

Open/ service

  • Animal Services:
    • Main Shelter (5001 Fred Wilson): 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    • Mission Valley (9068 Socorro): noon to 2 p.m.
    • Westside Adoption Center (5625 Confetti Dr.): noon to 2 p.m.
  • El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sun Metro: (Streetcar, fixed, & paratransit) Sunday/Holiday Schedule
  • El Paso Water Parks
  • All City Spray Parks: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

City administrative offices will resume business hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2. As well, the City Council Work Session will take place at 9 a.m. on Tuesday and the regular City Council meeting will take place at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

City of Las Cruces

Most City of Las Cruces offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, in observance of Labor Day.

However, all emergency services, including police and fire, will operate as usual.

The following City offices and facilities will be closed on Monday:

  • A Fielder Memorial Safe Haven
  • City Hall
  • East Mesa Recreation Center
  • Castaneda Service Center (Parks and Recreation Administration Offices)
  • Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center
  • Youth Development and Diversion Learning Center
  • Meerscheidt Recreation Center
  • Las Cruces Museum System, including Branigan Cultural Center, the Museum of Art, Museum of Nature and Science, and the Railroad Museum
  • Las Cruces Public Libraries, including Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, branch libraries at Munson Center and Sage Café
  • Rio Grande Theatre
  • All RoadRUNNER Transit operations and facilities
  • All Senior Programs facilities and services
  • South Central Solid Waste Authority administrative offices
  • Foothills Landfill
    • Closed on Labor Day, Sept. 1, and will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
  • Visit Las Cruces

The following City offices and facilities will be open on Monday:

  • Residential and Commercial collections will run as normal on Sept. 1
  • South Central Solid Waste Residential and Commercial Recycle Operations will run on regular schedule on Sept. 1
  • Laabs Outdoor Pool
    • Free Swim Day – Sessions noon to 3 p.m. and 3:30 – 6:30 p.m.
  • East Mesa Bataan Memorial Outdoor Pool
    • Free Swim Day – Sessions noon to 3:00 p.m. and 3:30 – 6:30 p.m.
  • Regional Aquatic Center Open 7:30 a.m. to noon
  • Las Cruces Natatorium Open 7:30 a.m. to noon

Doña Ana County

All Doña Ana County offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, in observance of Labor Day.

First responders and law enforcement in the field will not be affected by this closure.

All administrative offices will resume regular operating hours at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

El Paso Community College

EPCC will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1 in observance of Labor Day. No classes or student services will be open.

Classes and services will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Texas Tech Health El Paso

Texas Tech Health El Paso will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1 in observance of Labor Day.

The closure also includes Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso, the Texas Tech Dental Oral Health Clinic and Texas Tech Health El Paso campus libraries.

Normal hours will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Socorro Independent School District

Socorro Independent School District and it’s campuses will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1 in observance of Labor Day.

Classes and offices will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

In case of an emergency, contact SISD Police Services Dispatch at (915) 937-4357.

El Paso County

On Monday, Sept. 1, all El Paso County administrative offices will be closed in observance of Labor Day.

Here is a list of closed and open offices/services:

Closed

  • All County Department Administrative Offices
  • Enrique Moreno County Courthouse
  • Commissioners Court Offices

Open

  • Ascarate Golf Course 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • All County Parks 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
    • Ascarate Park Gate Fee: $5 per vehicle (cash accepted, debit/credit fees
      apply) from Aug. 30-Sept. 1
  • Ascarate Pool noon to 5 p.m., 6900 Delta Dr.

Additionally, the El Paso County Commissioners Court will not convene on Labor Day. A special session will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, to review and approve paid claims.

The next regular session is scheduled at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15.

County services and offices will resume normal hours on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
