EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The Boys and Girls Clubs of El Paso (BGCEP), along with AT&T, will celebrate the unveiling of a brand-new gym floor at Club Petty this week.
The unveiling ceremony will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Club Petty, 801 S. Florence St., BGCEP said.
The new gym floor at BGCEP’s flagship location is made possible through a $60,000 donation from AT&T, the club said. The donation replaces a 70-year-old floor, allowing Club Kids to have a new and safer place to play, the club added.
“AT&T is dedicated to serving our communities. Our continued investment in El Paso exemplifies our commitment as we collaborate with local organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso to cultivate enriching environments,” Carlos Martinez, director of AT&T External & Legislative Affairs, said. “These spaces provide local youth with access to the technology tools, Internet connectivity, and support programming they need to thrive.”
During the event, club members will take to the court for the first time, making their first baskets on the newly upgraded floor, BGCEP said.
BGCEP said AT&T representatives will also provide information on affordable connectivity programs such as Access from AT&T for families, helping to bridge the digital divide in the community.
In addition, 10 laptops will be given away in a drawing to further promote connectivity for families in the community, BGCEP said.
“The new flooring is more than just a beautiful update — it’s a foundation for kids to strengthen their health, develop teamwork skills and create lasting memories,” Anthony Tomasheski, CEO of Boys and Girls Clubs of El Paso, said. “We are incredibly grateful to AT&T for their support in making this space a reality.”
“AT&T, an invaluable partner BGCEP, last year opened the AT&T Connected Learning Center at club inside the 96-year-old Club Petty to provide computers, Wi-Fi and digital literacy resources for the Segundo Barrio community,” the club said.
