EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Canutillo Independent School District had to alter its release of their students at one of its schools due to a large fire happening in Canutillo.
School district officials reassured parents who have students at Davenport Elementary School about the safety of their children.
“All students are indoors and safe, and there is no imminent danger to the campus,” according to a Facebook post from the school district.
Images of the fire show pallets at Custom Crates and Pallets burning. According to Google Maps, Custom Crates and Pallets is next door to Davenport Elementary School, along the 1500 block of Westway Boulevard.
Due to the fire, the school’s release procedures changed. Students had to be released through the back of the campus, at a gate near the corner of Tom Mays and Banker streets.
Zinn and Tom Mays, Zinn and Remington and Westway and Tom Mays intersections are currently closed, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed its deputies and firefighters with West Valley Fire Department responded to the scene. Sheriff Oscar Ugarte stated that there is no immediate danger in the area or at the school.
