EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Carlsbad Caverns National Park is implementing fire restrictions, starting Wednesday, March 5, the park announced.
Fire, charcoal and propane grills will be prohibited. Smoking will also be prohibited, except inside personal vehicles.
Open flames and cooking stoves will prohibited in the backcountry, too.
The park is making these moves because of what they are calling “extreme fire danger.”
“The increased fire danger is due to prolonged hot, dry, and windy weather. These factors result in extremely dry vegetation that is highly susceptible to even the smallest spark,” the park said in a news release.
These measures will be in effect until the fire danger subsides.
