EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Cash Johnson, a Project Search Student with The Hospitals of Providence was selected to become a member of the El Paso Locomotive FC soccer team for the day.
The announcement was made at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27 at The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus.
Project Search is one of the many programs that the hospital participates in as an active member of the El Paso community.
The program aids students with disabilities by placing them in work environments where they obtain necessary real-life workplace skills to help them gain active employment.
Johnson joined the Project Search program this school year and works in the Central Supply Department at the Transmountain Campus.
After suffering a life-threatening car accident last year, Johnson has overcome many obstacles, learning to walk and talk again. Despite the challenges he’s faced, he remains positive and determined, according to Locomotive FC.
“Cash has shown tremendous strength and courage these past two years, and we are thrilled to have him as part of our team,” said Andrew Forrest, General Manager for the El Paso Locomotive FC. “Our team is ready to welcome him at practice tomorrow and at next week’s game.”
Locomotive Head Coach and Technical Director Brian Clarhaut, as well as midfielder Eric Calvillo and defender Erik McCue, were there to make the announcement and welcome Johnson to the team.
“This is a special recognition we enjoy doing to highlight someone who inspires others – Cash is certainly that person and inspires our team daily,” said David Byrd, Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus. “We are proud to have him representing us and know he’ll be a great asset to the team.”
As the Locomotive Player of the Day, Johnson will join the team for training on Thursday, September 28, and cap off the fun and exciting experience with recognition at Southwest University Park on Wednesday, October 4, for Locomotive’s final home match of the regular season against San Diego Loyal SC, which will be presented by The Hospitals of Providence.
