EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The cause of the house fire that killed two dogs and injured a firefighter last Monday, June 16, in El Paso’s Upper Valley was ruled to be the failure of a household kitchen appliance, a spokesperson for the El Paso Fire Department confirmed on Tuesday, June 24.

The spokesperson says the fire has been classified as a failure of equipment or heat source, and one firefighter was injured and one person suffered a burn injury at the scene.
As we have previously reported, fire crews were called out to a house fire just before 9 p.m. that Monday along the 4200 block of La Adelita. That is in the Sunset neighborhood of the Upper Valley.
The fire was upgraded to a Condition 4, and fire crews had the bulk of the fire knocked down by 9:30 p.m.
The two dogs were pulled out from the fire alive, and life-saving measures were performed on them, but they ended up dying from their injuries.
The firefighter who was injured was transported with minor injuries.
The family impacted by the fire has a GoFundMe that was started by a nearby neighbor. To access that, click here: Rebuild After Fire: Aid for Our Neighbor.
