EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) –Come celebrate Earth Day a little early and celebrate wildlife and conservation this weekend at the El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
The zoo’s Party for a Planet will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21.
Earth Day is observed annually on April 22, which falls on a Monday this year.
This year, Party for the Planet will feature dancers, musicians and a presentation called “Saving Our Endangered Species,” special animal programs and conservation exhibits.
“The fun-filled celebration is a great opportunity for families to recognize our planet, observe exquisite wildlife, and reflect on the importance of conservation efforts,” said El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens Director Joe Montisano. “This is more than just a party. There will be numerous family activities revolving around environmental and wildlife conservation, and an opportunity to celebrate the birthdays of our zoo animals.”
Animal Birthday Celebrations
Baby giraffe Obi turns 1 year old. Visitors can partake in an enrichment activity and feed Obi and the other giraffes at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20.
Orangutan Khaleesi turns 9 years old. Visitors can learn more about orangutans during a special question-and-answer session at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.
In addition, there will be various family-friendly activities, live performances, and music, and the El Paso Public Libraries Bookmobile will be on hand.
Party for the Planet is a signature Earth Day event for the El Paso Zoo and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).
