EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Centennial High School of Las Cruces is the No. 2 seed in the New Mexico state 6A football playoffs, according to brackets released by the New Mexico Activities Association on Saturday night, Nov. 3.
The Hawks finished their regular season at 6-0 in 6A District 3 and 10-0 overall after a 42-24 victory over crosstown rival Las Cruces High on Friday, Nov. 1.
Centennial has a first-round bye and will face the winner of No. 7 Rio Ranco and No. 10 Sandia in the 6A quarterfinals the weekend of Nov. 15-16.
Las Cruces High is seeded No. 5 in the 6A playoffs and will host No. 12 West Mesa at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8 at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces.
The Bulldawgs finished 5-1 in 6A District 3 and 7-3 overall. West Mesa of Albuquerque finished 3-4 in 6A District 2 and 5-5 overall.
La Cueva of Albuquerque is the No. 1 seed in 6A. The Bears were 7-0 in 6A District 2 and 10-0 overall.
In 5A, Deming is seeded No. 3 and Gadsden is seeded No. 4. Both have first-round byes.
Mayfield High of Las Cruces is seeded No. 6 in 5A and will host No. 11 Belen at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Field of Dreams. Mayfield was 3-4 in 5A District 2 and 4-6 overall. Belen was 4-3 in 5A District 1 and 4-5 overall.
Roswell is the top seed in 5A. The Coyotes were 6-1 in 5A District 2 and 8-1 overall.
In 4A, Chaparral is seeded No. 12. They will travel to Portales and face Portales High School, seeded No. 5, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8 at Greyhound Stadium. Chaparral was 2-4 in 4A District 2 and 3-7 overall. Portales was 4-2 in 4A District 2 and 6-4 overall. Portales beat Chaparral 44-19 in both teams’ regular-season finale on Nov. 1.
In 3A, No. 7 Hatch Valley will host No. 10 Pojoaque Valley at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8.
Also in 3A, No. 11 Ruidoso will face No. 6 West Las Vegas at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at West Las Vegas.
In 2A, Tularosa is seeded No. 4 and will have a first-round bye. The Wildcats will face the winner of No. 5 Eunice and No. 12 Laguna Acoma.
In 8-man football, No. 3 Mesilla Valley Christian of Las Cruces had a first-round bye and will face No. 6 Tatum at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at Hatch Valley High.
