EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Enhanced premium tax credits are a mouthful, but they help millions of Americans afford health insurance through the Health Insurance Markplace set up by the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare.
It is also one of the key areas of dispute between Republicans and Democrates in the ongoing government shutdown that began Sept. 30.
John Hawkins, president and chief executive officer of the Texas Hospital Association, will join KTSM primetime anchor Andy Morgan at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13 to discuss these issues.
Hawkins will talk about the imporance of Congress taking action this year before these tax credits expire.
According to the THA’s new white paper, “Keep Texans Insured: Renew the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits,” about 4 million Texans are signed up for health coverage through the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace.
These premium tax credits offered by the ACA help an overwhelming number of the marketplace enrollees purchase their insurance, the Texas Hospital Association said.
According to THA, 95 percent of Texas enrollees receive such a tax credit.
Hawkins has been president and chief executive officer for the Texas Hospital Association since 2022.
As CEO, he represents the Texas hospital industry locally and nationally and helps ensure hospitals have the resources they need to deliver the highest quality health care to all Texans.
Founded in 1930, the Texas Hospital Association is the leadership organization and principal advocate for the state’s hospitals and health care systems.
