EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Chaparral Middle School was put on lockdown Wednesday morning, Sept. 11 after school administrators received a threat that someone was inside the school building with a gun, Gadsden Independent School District said.
After a thorough investigation by law enforcement and the Gadsden ISD security personnel, it was determined that the threat was “unsubstantiated,” the district said.
The threat was received through the StopIt Anonymous reporting app and the school was immediately put on lockdown as a precautionary measure, the district said.
This is the second consecutive day that the StopIt reporting app has been used to make a false report regarding a safety concern in the Chaparral area, the district said.
“GISD is working closely with our law enforcement partners to locate the IP address of the individual responsible for making these false reports. Once the responsible party is identified, we will pursue prosecution to the fullest extent of the law, in addition to applying appropriate disciplinary actions in accordance with district policies,” the district said.
“The Gadsden Independent School District is committed to identifying the individual behind these false reports and ensuring accountability for their actions. We are proud of the swift and professional response by our school administrators, district security personnel, and local law enforcement, who ensured the safety of our students and staff throughout the investigation,” the district added.
