WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KTSM) – The Chapin High School boys basketball team suffered a 51-40 loss to Amarillo High in the Class 5A Regional Final (Elite 8) of the UIL Texas Boys State Basketball Playoffs at Kay Yeager Coliseum on Saturday.
This is the second straight season that Chapin’s season comes to an end in the Elite 8 round of the playoffs. In 2023, Chapin saw its season end after the it fell to Mansfield Summit, 54-47, in the Elite 8.
Despite the heartbreaking loss, the team was still proud of everything it accomplished this season.
“I love them. The sacrifice they make for us, the sacrifice they make for El Paso, the sacrifice they make for Chapin, for the Northeast. I wish people in El Paso really appreciate what these guys go through and what we try to do. We don’t just do it for us. We do it for the 915.” Chapin boys basketball head coach Rodney Lewis said postgame.
“I’m proud of my guys. We all fought. We had a great year, a great run, and I’m seeing the young guys are going to bring it back next year. They are going to work hard all off season and bring it back.” Chapin boys basketball senior guard Brandon Hymes said postgame.
Chapin, ranked fourth in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Class 5A Top 25 poll, ends its season with a 34-5 overall record.
